Frequently Asked Questions

What is Stoic Bible?

Stoic Bible helps you learn Stoicism by giving you the opportunity to practise 2 of the most important exercises that the ancients Stoics practised and encouraged their students to practise:

Reading and Writing

We do this by bringing together the works of the ancients Stoics in one place, with a delightful reading experience that makes reading engaging and fun.

While reading, you can take notes, highlight, bookmark, and share a quotes from the books.

The app also supports a journal, where you can write your thoughts as they occur to you during the day.

It’s an opportunity for you to not only read texts but write your own meditations just like Marcus Aurelius did.

Where do you get the books from?

All the books in Stoic Bible are curated from the public domain. Most of them can be found on Wikisource.

Does it cost any money to use Stoic Bible?

Yes. The app is free to try for the first 1 week of signing up, but after the first week, you’d be required to pay a monthly membership fee of ~$6/month in order to continue using all features; the monthly fee unlocks premium features that are exclusive to members. It gives you access to all the books in the collection and all other features on the app. Without membership, you’d only have access to a few chapters of most books and would have to pay to unlock read access to all the chapters of the books.

How can I make sure my journals stays private?

Your journals are private by default, and will always remain so, unless you decide to change them to Public. Your private journals can be seen/read only by you. To ensure no one else views them, ensure to keep your password secret and always log out when you’re not on your machine. Public journals would be visible in the future to other users, and would be indexed by search engines.

Also, on the mobile app you can secure access to your content by setting up passcode lock with Face/Touch ID, depending on whether your device support its.

How do Highlights work?

You just select text, and a custom menu will come up with options to share, highlights and/or journal on the selection.

Who built the app and website?

I (Awa Desmoline) did.

I've benefited tremendously from Stoicism for quite a long time, and I'm hoping to build a simple and delightful product to help people like myself do the same. I work on the app and website in my spare time as a side project.

Where can I signal a bug or suggest improvement points (or send some ❤️)?
